From our home to yours

Home - the word alone creates nostalgia. A place that has familiar smells, sounds, emotions. A place where you are known, you can let your hair down, eat some good food and create memories. Comfort, safe...home. 

I know that this may be a little idealistic and not everyone feels that way about the place they would call "home." Upeo Shop is an invitation to get a piece of our home - Kenya. Perhaps a sunset, wildlife or malnourished children is what comes to mind when you think of Kenya - but for me, it's hospitality, creativity, warmth, community, good food. 

I want to bring a piece of my home to my new home. I was born and raised in the capital city of Kenya, Nairobi and I loved my upbringing. Our home was always full - we were a large family and then had relatives and friends over often. My family and I moved to the midwest a little over 10 years ago and now consider this home - which has been a journey. I remember visiting Kenya and then saying, I'm going home - meaning back to America. 

So now home has expanded for me - there's enough room in my heart for both and I'm thrilled to connect my two homes.
